Poker Range Equity Calculator (Range vs. Range)

In Texas Hold’em, you rarely know exactly what two cards your opponent holds. Instead, you put them on a Range—a set of possible hands based on their position and betting behavior.

Knowing how your hand (or your range) performs against their range is the foundation of profitable poker. Our free Poker Equity Calculator allows you to simulate these matchups instantly using a Monte Carlo engine.

How to Use the Equity Calculator

This tool is designed to mimic professional software like Equilab but runs directly in your browser.

  1. Enter Player 1 Range:
    • Specific Hand: Enter “AhKh” or “AsKs”.
    • Shorthand: Enter “AA” (all aces), “AKs” (suited only), or “AKo” (offsuit only).
    • List: Separate multiple hands with commas, e.g., AA, KK, QQ, AKs.
  2. Enter Player 2 Range:
    • You can type “Random” to simulate against any two cards.
    • Or use the presets like “Top 10%” to simulate against a strong opponent.
  3. Calculate: Click the button. The system runs thousands of virtual hands to determine your Equity (Pot Share).

Why Range Analysis Matters

Beginners ask: “Does my AK beat his hand?”
Pros ask: “How does my AK perform against a range of {JJ+, AQ+}?”

Example: Aces vs. Random

If you hold AA and go all-in against a “Random” hand (Any Two Cards):

  • Your Equity: ~85%
  • Opponent Equity: ~15%

Example: The “Coin Flip” (AK vs Pairs)

If you hold AKo and your opponent only plays Pocket Pairs (22 through AA):

  • Your Equity: ~46%
  • Opponent Equity: ~54%
  • Result: You are actually a slight underdog against a pure pair range!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is “Equity”?

Equity is your “share” of the pot based on the probability of winning the hand at showdown. If the pot is $100 and you have 60% equity, your “Expected Value” in that pot is $60.

How accurate is this calculator?

This tool uses a Monte Carlo simulation, running thousands of random boards to approximate the true odds. While not as precise as a full enumeration engine (which takes minutes), it provides results within 0.5% accuracy in seconds, which is perfect for quick analysis.

What does “s” and “o” mean?

“s” stands for Suited (e.g., AKs means Ace and King of the same suit). “o” stands for Offsuit (e.g., AKo means Ace and King of different suits). Suited hands generally have 2-3% more equity due to flush potential.
