Placepot Permutation Calculator

The Placepot is the UK’s favorite pool bet. To win, you must pick a horse to place in the first 6 races of a meeting.

To increase their chances, experienced players use Permutations (selecting more than one horse in difficult races). This calculator does the multiplication for you to find the total cost of your perm.

How to Calculate Lines

The total number of lines is calculated by multiplying the number of selections in each leg.

Example Strategy:

  • Leg 1: 2 horses (Start strong)
  • Leg 2: 1 horse (The “Banker”)
  • Leg 3: 3 horses (Difficult handicap)
  • Leg 4: 2 horses
  • Leg 5: 2 horses
  • Leg 6: 4 horses (Wide open race)

Calculation: 2 x 1 x 3 x 2 x 2 x 4 = 96 Lines.

If your unit stake is £0.50, the total ticket cost is £48.00.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a “Banker”?

A Banker is when you select only 1 horse in a specific race. This keeps the multiplier at x1 for that leg, significantly reducing the total cost of your ticket. Getting your banker right is the key to profitable Placepot betting.

What happens to a non-runner in a Placepot?

If one of your selections is a non-runner, your stake on that line is usually transferred to the Favourite of that race. You are not knocked out; you simply have the favourite running for you instead.
