Exacta vs Trifecta vs Superfecta
The three wagers use the same ordered-combination logic, but each added finishing position increases the number of possible outcomes. Compare the smallest full box at the example bases below.
| Wager | Required order | Smallest box | Combinations | Example unit | Example box cost | Available constructions |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Exacta | 1st + 2nd | 2 horses | 2 | $1 | $2 | Straight, Box, Key Wheel, Key Box, Part Wheel |
| Trifecta | 1st + 2nd + 3rd | 3 horses | 6 | $0.50 | $3 | Straight, Box, Key Wheel, Key Box, Part Wheel |
| Superfecta | 1st + 2nd + 3rd + 4th | 4 horses | 24 | $0.10 | $2.40 | Straight, Box, Key Wheel, Key Box, Two-Key, Part Wheel |
The comparison uses example unit stakes only. Actual minimums and displayed payout bases may differ. All three calculators support custom stakes and scale a displayed probable or final payoff rather than attempting to predict the final dividend.

How Ticket Cost and Payout Scaling Work
Exacta, Trifecta and Superfecta tickets are bundles of ordered combinations. A box buys every valid order among the selected horses. A key fixes one horse to a condition, while a part wheel uses different horse groups in different positions. The calculators enumerate valid orders so a horse is never counted twice in the same finishing sequence.
Valid combinations × unit stake
Displayed payoff × your unit stake ÷ displayed base
A cost can be calculated exactly before the race. A final pari-mutuel dividend cannot be predicted because the pool and the money bet on the winning combination continue to change until wagering closes. The payout tabs therefore scale a displayed probable or final payoff; they do not infer a dividend from the horses' individual win odds.
