This Crapless Craps payout calculator works out Place, Buy, Lay and Pass/Come payouts, including odds on 2, 3, 11 and 12. Compare the profit you keep with the total returned when the stake is taken down, and account for commission and chip rounding.
Quick example: at an 11:2 Place payout, $20 on 2 wins $110 profit. A $20 Buy bet on 2 wins $120 before commission, or $119 net if a 5% fee on the stake is charged only on wins. The chance of 2 arriving before 7 is the same for both bets: 1 in 7.
Choose a bet and match the payout and commission rules to your table. All amounts use the same currency; examples use dollars. Loading calculator… The total return includes the original stake. For a Place, Buy or Lay bet left on the table, the stake remains active instead of being handed back. Commission already paid upfront is not subtracted from the return a second time.

How to use the Crapless Craps payout calculator
- Choose the bet. Place and Buy back a number against 7; Lay backs 7 against a number. The two Pass/Come modes distinguish a new flat bet from an existing point with additional odds.
- Enter the amount actually staked. Keep an upfront Buy/Lay commission outside this field. For line plus odds, enter the original line bet and additional odds separately.
- Match the table rules. Choose the Place paytable. For Buy/Lay, set the commission rate, collection time, rounding and minimum fee.
- Check settlement. Exact mode shows the mathematical payout. If the table rounds winnings down, open Payout rounding and enter its chip value. Press Calculate payout after changing a field.
The tool models one working bet through its first win or loss, followed by taking it down. It does not simulate pressing, repeated hits, a whole shooter’s hand or changing working/off instructions. All amounts use one currency; the dollar examples also scale to other currencies with equivalent chip rules.
Crapless Craps payout table: Place vs true odds
“To” odds describe profit, excluding the returned stake. The main Place table below follows the published Cypress Bayou rules. Buy bets use the true-odds column before commission; additional Pass/Come odds use the same ratios without a Buy fee.
| Number | Ways to roll | Win before 7 | Place profit | True-odds profit | Place house edge |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 / 12 | 1 each | 14.2857% | 11:2 | 6:1 | 7.1429% |
| 3 / 11 | 2 each | 25.0000% | 11:4 | 3:1 | 6.2500% |
| 4 / 10 | 3 each | 33.3333% | 9:5 | 2:1 | 6.6667% |
| 5 / 9 | 4 each | 40.0000% | 7:5 | 3:2 | 4.0000% |
| 6 / 8 | 5 each | 45.4545% | 7:6 | 6:5 | 1.5152% |
The house edges here are calculated per resolved bet, using the displayed Place ratios and exact payouts. They are not losses on every roll. Numbers grouped in one row are separate bets with matching probabilities, not a combined two-number wager.
Paytables vary. Maryland’s published standard rules also permit Place payouts of 25:5 on 2/12 and 13:5 on 3/11. These produce house edges of 14.2857% and 10.0000%, respectively. The calculator includes that alternative and a custom ratio. Maryland also specifies Buy payouts and upfront or win-only vig; see the regulator’s rules, chapters 5–6. This document describes that jurisdiction’s rules, not every casino’s current offer.
Cypress Bayou states that wagers of $20 or more on each of 2, 3, 11 and 12 are treated as Buy bets. A displayed Place example does not override such an automatic conversion: choose Buy whenever that is how your table settles the wager.
Place bet amounts that pay in whole dollars
With the common paytable and $1 chips, multiples of $2 on 2/12, $4 on 3/11, $5 on 4/5/9/10 and $6 on 6/8 avoid fractional-dollar Place winnings. For example, $24 on 3 wins $66, and $30 on 6 wins $35. These are arithmetic units, not advertised table minimums. An automatic Buy rule may change the bet type.
For additional true odds, any whole-dollar amount on 2/3/4/10/11/12 has a whole-dollar theoretical profit; use even-dollar odds on 5/9 and multiples of $5 on 6/8. A Buy fee can still introduce a fractional amount.
Buy bets: net profit, total return and vig
Let B be the bet, G the gross winning profit after any selected payout rounding, and C the commission. The calculator’s Buy commission basis is B. It first applies the percentage, then the selected fee rounding, then the minimum fee.
- Win-only commission: initial outlay = B; net win = G − C; total return = B + G − C; loss = B.
- Upfront commission: initial outlay = B + C; net win = G − C; total return = B + G; loss = B + C.
In upfront mode, the return is larger because the fee has already left your bankroll. Your net winning profit is unchanged, but losing is more expensive.
| Bet | Initial outlay | Net winning profit | Return if taken down | Loss | House edge / outlay |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Place at 11:2 | $20 | $110 | $130 | $20 | 7.1429% |
| Buy, fee only on wins | $20 | $119 | $139 | $20 | 0.7143% |
| Buy, fee upfront | $21 | $119 | $140 | $21 | 4.7619% |
For the win-only Buy example, expected profit is (1/7 × $119) − (6/7 × $20) = −$0.142857…. With the fee upfront, expected profit is −$1. The latter is 5% of the $20 bet, but 4.7619% of the $21 initial outlay. Different denominators explain these two percentages; the cash loss is the same.
Minimum-fee example: a $10 Buy bet on 2 with a $1 minimum commission paid only on wins produces $59 net profit, $69 total return and a 1.4286% house edge. Without that minimum, an exact 5% commission would be $0.50 and the edge would be 0.7143%. Confirm both the fee rule and whether a $10 Buy bet is accepted.
Buy is not automatically the lower-cost option on every number. With an exact 5% win-only fee, Buy 6/8 has a 2.2727% edge, while Place 6/8 at 7:6 has a 1.5152% edge. Commission rounding and minimums can alter the comparison.
Pass Line and Come bets: why “crapless” still has an edge
A Crapless Pass bet wins immediately on 7. Every other first-roll total becomes its point, which must repeat before 7 for an even-money win. Come bets follow that sequence from their own first roll. The trade-off is that 11 no longer gives an immediate win and the rare extreme totals can become difficult points.
| Flat Pass Line rule | Conventional Craps | Crapless Craps |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate win | 7 or 11 | 7 |
| Immediate loss | 2, 3 or 12 | None |
| Possible points | 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 | 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 |
| Full-bet win probability | 49.2929% | 47.3088% |
| House edge, no odds | 1.4141% | 5.3824% |
The Crapless flat-bet edge is therefore about $5.38 of expected loss per $100 initially wagered over many completed bets. It does not mean an individual $100 bet loses $5.38: that bet wins $100 or loses $100.
Point-set example: an existing $20 Pass bet has point 2, and you add $100 odds at 6:1. If 2 arrives before 7, the line wins $20 and the odds win $600: $620 profit and $740 returned including both stakes. If 7 arrives first, you lose $120. The conditional win probability is 1/7.
From that point onward, expected profit is (1/7 × $620) − (6/7 × $120) = −$14.285714…. Dividing by the current $120 outlay gives 11.9048%. This is conditional on already having point 2; it is not the overall Pass Line edge measured before the come-out roll. The line is already a contract bet at this stage.
Fair odds have zero expected value by themselves before rounding. Adding them increases the amount at risk and can reduce expected loss as a percentage of total money wagered, but it does not remove the flat line bet’s expected dollar loss. Odds limits and whether Come odds are working on a later come-out roll must be checked at the table.
Lay bets, where offered
A Lay bet reverses the number-versus-7 condition. Its fair profit ratio is 1:6 on 2/12, 1:3 on 3/11, 1:2 on 4/10, 2:3 on 5/9 and 5:6 on 6/8. Cypress Bayou publishes these Lay ratios. Availability of Lay does not establish availability of Don’t Pass or Don’t Come.
In this calculator, Lay commission uses the potential true-odds profit before payout rounding. For example, laying $120 against 2 offers $20 gross profit. At 5% commission on that profit, charged only on wins, the fee is $1: you win $19 net if 7 comes first, get $139 back if the stake is taken down, or lose $120 if 2 comes first. The win probability is 6/7 and expected loss is $6/7, giving a 0.7143% edge.
Commission timing is configurable because the same fair payout can lead to different net results. The payout and fee calculations are for the selected rules, not a claim that every venue offers that combination. Michael Shackleford’s Crapless analysis provides a separate comparison of Buy/Lay commission cases and the 5.382% flat Pass edge.
How the payout and probability formulas work
There are 36 equally likely ordered outcomes of two fair six-sided dice. Seven has 6 combinations. Let w be the number of combinations for the selected point. Other totals only postpone a decision while the bet remains working.
- Number before 7:
p = w / (w + 6). - 7 before number:
p = 6 / (w + 6). - True-odds profit on a number:
G = bet × 6 / w. - Place profit at a:b:
G = bet × a / b. - Expected net result:
EV = p × net winning profit − (1 − p) × loss. - House edge on initial outlay:
−EV / initial outlay.
The full Crapless Pass win probability also includes its first roll: P(win) = 6/36 + Σ [(w/36) × w/(w+6)], summing separately over the ten possible points. This equals 6557/13860, or 47.3088%. An even-money payout gives house edge = 1 − 2P(win) = 373/6930, or 5.3824%.
These are exact dice-model probabilities, not simulation estimates. The interface rounds them for display. Its money fields accept up to two decimals; exact-mode results display up to four. Rounded winnings can reduce expected value, and a displayed 0.0000% is rounded to that precision.
Frequently asked questions
What do 2 and 12 pay in Crapless Craps?
Additional true odds pay 6:1. Buy bets also pay 6:1 before commission. The common Place payout is 11:2, but alternative tables can pay 25:5. Check whether the dealer treats your amount as a Place or Buy bet.
What do 3 and 11 pay?
The common Place payout is 11:4; the alternative included here is 13:5. Additional true odds pay 3:1, and Buy bets pay 3:1 before commission. An 11 on the first roll establishes a Crapless Pass/Come point rather than giving an immediate line win.
Does payout include my original bet?
A quoted payout such as 11 to 2 means profit only. The calculator separately shows net profit and total returned if the stake is taken down. A Place, Buy or Lay stake can instead stay on the table and remain at risk.
Is it better to Place or Buy the extreme numbers?
Under the common Place table and exact 5% Buy commission collected only on wins, Buy has the lower edge on 2, 3, 11 and 12. The chance of winning is unchanged. Minimum fees, rounding, stake requirements and automatic Buy rules must be included in a practical comparison.
Is Crapless Craps safer than ordinary Craps?
Removing immediate come-out losses does not remove losses later. The flat Crapless Pass Line has a 5.3824% house edge, compared with 1.4141% in conventional Craps. Risk also depends on the bet size and which wagers you choose.
Are free odds the same as a Buy bet?
Both use true-odds ratios, but additional odds depend on an existing Pass/Come bet and have no Buy commission. A Buy bet is a separate wager with its own fee rules. Free odds still require additional money at risk.
Why does an upfront 5% Buy fee show a 4.7619% house edge?
With exact true-odds payouts, a $20 Buy bet and $1 upfront fee have a $1 expected loss. The calculator divides that by the full $21 outlay: 1/21 = 4.7619%. Dividing by the $20 bet alone gives 5%. A minimum fee or payout rounding can change these figures.
Can I use this for All Small, All Tall or Make Them All?
No. Those are Bonus Craps side bets with different winning conditions. Use the separate standard Craps and Bonus Craps calculator linked below. This tool handles one-number bets and Pass/Come line bets with optional odds.
